Pounds And Pitching Lift Revs To Grand Victory
July 18, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
Bryan Pounds crushed a grand slam in the sixth inning to provide the offense while Logan Williamson and four relievers stymied the Barnstormers as the York Revolution grabbed a 4-1 victory on Saturday night in Lancaster in front of 5,408 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The Revs have won three of their last four games, pulling within a game of first place at 4-5 in the second half. York will go for the series win on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Williamson (4-6) allowed just one run on three hits over five innings to earn the win. Working to a strike zone that was contested by pitchers throughout the evening, the lefty overcame an uncharacteristic five walks to hold the Barnstormers in check.
With the game scoreless, Lancaster struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anderson Feliz led off the inning with a triple to the gap in left-center. Williamson recorded the first out as Yusuke Kajimoto grounded to third with the corners in, but Zach Collier followed with an RBI groundout to second, bringing Feliz home with the game's first run.
Lancaster starter Pat Misch allowed just a first inning single by Wilson Valdez, and no further hits over five scoreless innings in his Atlantic League debut.
Reliever Bryan Morgado (0-5) ran into trouble in the sixth inning. Mikey Reynolds greeted the former Revs lefty with a single up the middle to lead things off. Valdez then dropped down a sacrifice bunt, his 34th in a Revs uniform, tying Keoni DeRenne for the franchise record. Eric Patterson then drew a walk, and following a double-steal, Brandon Boggs worked a walk to load the bases. Right-hander Kyle Simon entered to face Pounds who launched a grand slam onto the hill in left field, giving the Revs a 4-1 lead, and ending a scoreless drought of 14 innings to begin the series.
The Revs were unable to tack on runs, leaving runners at third base in each of the final three innings including the bases loaded in the ninth, but the bullpen was airtight, combining for four no-hit innings with the only base runner reaching on an error in the seventh.
Beau Vaughan worked a perfect sixth, Edward Paredes stranded a runner at third base in the seventh, and Ty'Relle Harris and Stephen Penney closed it out with perfect innings in the eighth and ninth, respectively. Penney nailed down his third save of the season, 12th of his York career, and 20th of his professional career.
Notes: The Revs were the only Freedom Division team to win on Saturday night, and in addition to being just one game back of Southern Maryland for first, are just half a game behind Lancaster (5-5) for second place. Pounds' grand slam was the Revs' second in eight days as Patterson connected on one last Saturday at home vs. Lancaster. The home run was the third in four games for Pounds who has now gone yard in three straight victories. Pounds has also driven in nine runs over the last five games. York evens the season's War of the Roses series at 10-10 with eight meetings to go. The win is the Revs' 249th road victory all-time. In 14 starts, Williamson has now allowed two earned runs or fewer 11 times and one earned run or fewer 10 times. Williamson improves to 2-0 with a 0.72 ERA in four starts against Lancaster this season (25.0 innings, two earned runs). York righty Matt Neil (2-6, 4.77) will oppose submarine right-hander Shunsuke Watanabe (4-3, 2.83) in Sunday's rubber match at 1 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 12:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
