STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports found their way into the win column in their longest game of the year on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark. B.J. Boyd delivered the game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the 14th to deliver the Ports a 4-3 win over the Bakersfield Blaze to open a four-game series.

Bakersfield opened the scoring in the third on the first career home run hit by Aaron Barbosa. With one on and one out, Barbosa hit a two-run homer to right field to give the Blaze the initial 2-0 lead. Stockton got a run back in the bottom of the third on back-to-back two-out doubles by Brett Vertigan and Franklin Barreto to cut the Blaze lead to 2-1.

Stockton tied the game in the last of the sixth on a one-out solo home run by Matt Chapman. It was the final run allowed by Blaze starter Dan Altavilla, who received a no-decision after going seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six.

Ports starter Matt Stalcup also received a no-decision after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four over six innings pitched.

The Blaze took the lead back in the seventh facing Ports reliever Sam Bragg. With two outs and the bases empty, Justin Seager singled to center and scored on an ensuing double by Jay Baum to give the Blaze a 3-2 advantage. It was the only run allowed by Bragg in two innings pitched.

Nick Valenza took over for Altavilla in the eighth. With two outs and the bases empty, Tyler Marincov singled to right and Chapman brought him home on an ensuing double down the left field line that kicked off the third base bag, knotting the score at 3-3. It was the only run allowed by Valenza in three innings of work as he retired the final seven batters he faced after giving up the game-tying double.

For Stockton, Brendan McCurry pitched two scoreless innings beginning in the ninth as did Ben Bracewell beginning in the 10th. Rafael Pineda tossed two scoreless frames for the Blaze beginning in the 11th.

Carlos Misell (2-6) took over for the Blaze in the 13th and pitched a scoreless 13th inning. In the 14th, Misell gave up a one-out walk to John Nogowski, at which point Michael Soto was inserted as a pinch-runner. After Beau Taylor flew out to center, Soto advanced to second on a passed ball. Boyd then singled to center to deliver the game-winning run and a 4-3 Stockton victory.

Sam Roberts (4-2), who pitched a scoreless 13th and 14th innings, notched the win for Stockton.

The Ports and Blaze play the second game of a four-game series on Sunday at Banner Island Ballpark. Kyle Finnegan (5-6, 5.44 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Bakersfield left-hander Tyler Pike (2-3, 3.27 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:10 p.m. PDT.
