Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Chase McDonald provided the lone JetHawks run with a home run in the eighth inning as the San Jose Giants took the opening game of a four-game series, 4-1, on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.
All five runs scored in the game came via home runs, beginning with back-to-back San Jose bombs in the first inning against right-hander Troy Scribner (2-4).
Angel Villalona followed a two-out Daniel Carbonell single with a two-run home run to left field to put the Giants ahead early. The next batter, Tyler Horan, added an opposite-field shot to put San Jose (44-48) on top 3-0. The home runs marked the first back-to-back home runs against Lancaster pitching this season.
Scribner would settle down to finish five innings without allowing another run. In total he surrendered six hits while striking out one and issuing one walk.
The first-inning runs were enough for Giants starter Jason Forjet (3-2). He tossed six scoreless innings despite giving up seven hits and walking a batter. He struck out five.
Edison Frias tossed the final three innings, allowing just one hit, a home run to Seth Harrison in the seventh inning. He struck out three without walking a batter.
The JetHawks (49-43), a club that hadn't scored a run since the eighth inning on Thursday night, broke a 17-inning scoreless drought when McDonald blasted a leadoff homer against reliever Dan Slania in the eighth inning. It was the first baseman's 15th home run of the season.
Lancaster left 10 runners on base in the game and finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The series continues with a 5 p.m. game on Sunday in San Jose. Kevin Comer (1-3) will toe the rubber against Chase Johnson (5-3).
