Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif.- As announced by the Oakland Athletics, the Ports are excited to share the 2016 Opening Day roster.
Highlights of the roster include four top-30 pitching prospects including Casey Meisner (#9), Heath Fillmyer (#19), lefty Zack Erwin (#23), and Daniel Gossett (#25), in addition to infielder Mikey White (#20).
Fans will recognize right-handed pitcher Casey Meisner, who was acquired via trade with the Mets in late July 2015. While with Stockton, the A's 9th ranked prospect started seven games, acquiring a 3-1 record with a 2.78 ERA.
Fillmyer, Gossett, and White all spent time with the A's Single-A affiliate in Beloit during 2015, while the organization received White as part trade which sent Brett Lawrie to the Chicago White Sox in December.
Other returning players on the roster include pitchers Bobby Wahl (R), Kyle Finnegan (R), Lou Trivino (R), Ben Bracewell (R), Carlos Navas (R), and Joey Wagman (R), infielders John Nogowski, Jose Brizuela, and Melvin Mercedes, and outfielders Tyler Marincov and B.J. Boyd.
The team will be led for the second year in a row by manager Rick Magnante, who took the Ports to the playoffs in 2015 after claiming a 74-66 record. The Ports are welcoming pitching coach Steve Connelly and hitting coach and former Stockton Port Tommy Everidge in their first years coaching in Stockton. Returning field staff include Athletic trainer Travis Tims, strength and clubhouse manager Vic Zapien, and strength and conditioning coach Sean Duran, who was previously with the team in 2013.
Additionally, as a parking advisory for the Tuesday, April 12th home game, the Ports will be charging $10 in both the North and West Lots due to the Carrie Underwood concert held at the Stockton Arena.
Opening day is April 7th vs. the Modesto Nuts. Individual tickets are currently on sale at the Stockton Ports Box Office weekdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm, at stocktonports.com, or by calling 209-644-1900.
