San Jose Giants Extend Player Development Contract with San Francisco Giants

San Jose, CA - The San Jose Giants have announced a four-year extension to their Player Development Contract with the San Francisco Giants. The contract extension will keep San Jose an affiliate of San Francisco through the 2020 season.

"We're extremely pleased to maintain our relationship with the San Francisco Giants and continue developing homegrown Giants." said San Jose Giants Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Wilson. "In the 29-year affiliation between the two teams, the San Jose Giants have produced 181 major leaguers, 132 of whom played or currently play for San Francisco. This extension ensures that fans in San Jose will continue to see top San Francisco Giants prospects at Municipal Stadium for the foreseeable future."

14 former San Jose Giants have been announced on the San Francisco Giants 2016 opening day roster, including: Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, Joe Panik, Matt Cain, Matt Duffy, Sergio Romo, Hunter Strickland, Chris Heston, Trevor Brown, Josh Osich, Kelby Tomlinson and Ehire Adrianza. Since becoming affiliated with San Francisco in 1988, the San Jose Giants have reached the playoffs in 21 out of 29 seasons, won ten North Division Titles and claimed six California League Championships (2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2001 and 1998).

"Our partnership with the San Jose Giants has lasted nearly three decades and the relationship between the two organizations continues to grow", said San Francisco Giants Senior Vice President and General Manager Bobby Evans. "The hardworking front office paired with the team's strong fan base make San Jose a great place for our top prospects to develop on and off the field."

Fans can meet the 2016 players and coaches at the 8th annual San Jose Giants FanFest today at Municipal Stadium from 5:00-9:00 PM. San Jose Giants manager, Lipso Nava, and all of his players and coaches will be available to sign autographs and pose for pictures as part of a "Meet-and-Greet" that begins at 5:15 PM. Fans will also have the opportunity to watch the team practice starting at 7:00 PM, purchase new merchandise in the San Jose Giants Dugout Store and play in the Family Fun Zone. Admission and parking are free. Those interested in becoming new season ticket holders are invited to come down to Municipal Stadium during FanFest to select their seat locations.

The San Jose Giants 2016 season begins on Thursday, April 7 at Municipal Stadium against the Lancaster JetHawks. The opening night festivities include a Magnet Schedule giveaway presented by Alliance Credit Union and Pepsi as well as a spectacular postgame fireworks show.
