Inland Empire 66ers Announce 2016 Opening Day Roster

San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers, California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, announced its Opening Day roster on Monday. Ten of the 25 players on the roster have prior experience with club while seven of the 12 position players made their professional debuts only last summer. First- year 66ers Manager Chad Tracy will have plenty of experience with this season's personnel however, as he skippered 17 of the 25 at some point while managing the Angels' Midwest League affiliate in Burlington, IA in 2015.

The team will feature the Angel's top prospect according to the Baseball America publication; Catcher Taylor Ward was selected in the first round of the 2015 draft by the Angels out of Fresno State University. Ward played his prep baseball just 71 miles away from San Manuel Stadium for Shadow Hills High School in Indio, CA. He batted .348 in a combined 56 games between rookie-level Orem and low-A Burlington after signing last year. He is one of six players on the roster that are listed in Baseball America's top 30 prospects for the Angels. The others are RHPs Jake Jewell, Jeremy Rhoades, Justin Anderson, and infielders David Fletcher and Roberto Baldoquin.

"As with every season, we are excited to watch these prospects perform and chase their goal of making it to the Major Leagues," 66ers General Manager Joe Hudson said. "While those men work hard to prove themselves on the field, our front office will work hard to provide an entertaining experience for every fan that comes through the gates to see them play."

Roster Breakdown:

Pitchers (13): Justin Anderson, Tyler Carpenter, Harrison Cooney, Jake Jewell, Alex Klonowski, Brian Loconsole, Kenyan Middleton, Jose Molina, Ronnie Muck, Garrett Nuss, Eduardo Paredes, Jordan Piche, Jeremy Rhoades

Catchers (3): Jose Briceno, Michael Strentz, Taylor Ward

Infielders (6): Tim Arakawa, Jeff Boehm, Roberto Baldoquin, David Fletcher, Zach Houchins, Ryan Sebra.

Outfielders (3): Caleb Adams, Trever Allen, Ayendy Perez

The 66ers open the 2016 California League Schedule on Thursday, April 7th in Adelanto versus the High

Desert Mavericks at 6:35 pm. Inland Empire's home opener at San Manuel Stadium is slated for Thursday, April 14th against the San Jose Giants at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available at 66ers.com.
