Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif.- The Oakland Athletics have announced the Stockton Ports Opening Day roster.

The roster includes two of the A's Top Prospects, shortstop Franklin Barreto (#2) and left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton (#5).

Franklin Barreto was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012 as an international free agent. In 2014, while with the Short Season Class-A Vancouver Canadians, the Venezuelan native led the Northwest League in hits, doubles, and RBI, and ended the season with a .311 batting average. Barreto was acquired by the A's in the Josh Donaldson trade in November.

Overton was selected with the Athletics' second-round draft pick in the 2013 First Year Player Draft. The Oklahoma alumnus, known for having a 95 mph fastball, ended the 2014 season with the Short Season Class-A Vermont Lake Monsters, where he posted a 1-0 record and 2.40 ERA in five starts.

Players returning to Stockton include pitchers Tim Atherton (R), Andres Avila (R), Dylan Covey (R), Tyler Hollstegge (R), Jonathan Joseph (R), Brendan McCurry (R), catcher Beau Taylor, and outfielder Tyler Marincov.

Rick Magnante will lead the team during his first season with the Ports, after serving as manager of the 2014 Class-A Beloit Snappers, in what will be his thirteenth season with the Athletics' organization. Rick Rodriguez will join the Ports as pitching coach, and Brian McArn will be in his second consecutive year as the Ports' hitting coach. Travis Tims will be returning as the Ports' athletic trainer, while Henry Torres will be in his first year as Stockton's strength coach.

Opening day is April 16th, 2015 vs. the Visalia Rawhide. Individual tickets are currently on sale at the Stockton Ports Box Office weekdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm, at stocktonports.com, or by calling 209-644-1900.
