LANCASTER, Calif. - Chase McDonald and Ronnie Mitchell hit solo home runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Lancaster JetHawks never looked back, defeating the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers, 12-0, in an exhibition game at The Hangar Tuesday night.
In the third, McDonald added an RBI double, and Brian Holberton later tacked on a two-RBI double to extend the JetHawks' lead to 5-0.
The floodgates opened in the fifth inning, when UAV pitchers Neal White and Oscar Estrada combined for six walks and allowed six runs.
Jose Fernandez topped off the evening's scoring by lifting a sacrifice fly to center field in the sixth, and the JetHawks went on to preserve the 12-0 victory in eight innings.
The JetHawks will face the San Jose Giants to officially open their 2015 season at the Hangar on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
