Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

Brendan Leipsic is currently in the midst of a five-game scoring streak, a span in which he has 10 points, including two three-point games. Leipsic has 38 points in 47 games, surpassing the 33 points he had in 68 games last season as a 16-year-old rookie. His 38 points ties him for fifth in team scoring with Derrick Pouliot, a fellow second-year player.

In the three weeks since the WHL trade deadline, the team's two acquisitions have paid big dividends. Cam Reid, whose rights were acquired from Edmonton and who left St. Cloud State to join the Hawks, is averaging better than a point per game with 13 points in 11 contests, including a current four-game scoring streak. Meanwhile, Marcel Noebels, acquired from Seattle, has nearly matched his production, with nine points in 11 games.

With 20 games remaining in the regular season, goaltender Mac Carruth is closing in on a significant Winterhawks record. With 31 wins this season, Carruth is just four shy of Brent Belecki's franchise record of 35 wins in a season by a Winterhawks goaltender set during the 1997-98 Memorial Cup season. The league record for wins in a season by a goaltender is 49, set by current Vancouver Giants assistant coach Glen Hanlon in the 1976-77 season.

The Hawks will be playing two daylight games with the curtains down in Veterans Memorial Coliseum this month: on Saturday, February 18 against Seattle and Monday, February 20 against Prince George. Both games will begin at 3 p.m. (Monday is Presidents Day).
