Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers announced today a multi-year plan to bring concerts to Providence Park for the first time in nearly 20 years.
The first artist to headline the stadium will be rock icons Foo Fighters, taking place Friday, August 16, 2024, as part of their Everything or Nothing At All North American tour announced today. General on sale for tickets begins Friday, October 6 at 10am local time. For pre-sales and further information, visit foofighters.com.
"This is very exciting for us, for our fans and for the city of Portland," said Timbers CEO Heather Davis. "We are proud to continue our investment in the vibrancy of downtown Portland as Providence Park becomes the largest concert venue in the Portland area. Artists who had to bypass Portland on their West Coast tours will have a great new option to consider."
The opening of this venue creates opportunities for artists to play full stadium shows in the city of Portland for the first-time ever. Previously bypassed by stadium acts due to the lack of a venue option in the market, the plan will expand Providence Park into a first-rate concert venue fitting for a wide array of artists looking to perform big outdoor shows in downtown Portland.
Beginning in 2024, Providence Park will be home to multiple shows a year with a sellable capacity of approximately 30,000, nearly doubling the next largest venue in Portland. General admission and reserved seating will be available on Providence Park's pitch, with the concert stage at the south end of the stadium.
The venue has undergone more than $130 million in extensive renovations and upgrades over the last several years, all of which have been privately funded by the Timbers, making it now a viable option to bring acts from all over the world to Providence Park.
The stadium hosted its first ever concert in 1957 with Elvis Presley, where 14,600 people witnessed one of the first-ever outdoor stadium rock concerts in music history. The historic venue hosted more legendary shows throughout the years such as The Beach Boys (1984), Bob Dylan (1986), David Bowie (1987), Johnny Cash (1992), Van Halen (1995), Sheryl Crow (1999) and Def Leppard (2005), and will see major music acts return to Goose Hollow in 2024 for the first time since 2005.
