Tomás Avilés Named to MLS Team of the Matchday

Inter Miami CF defender Tomás Avilés has been named in the Team of the Matchday for Matchday 35 of the 2023 MLS regular season. The young defender earns Team of the Matchday honors after his stellar performance to help Inter Miami earn a point in a hardfought 1-1 draw against New York City FC on Saturday.

Avilés, 19, features in the Team of the Matchday starting XI in what marks his first TOTM selection since joining Inter Miami in the summer. The Argentine defender earned his place in the team after netting a heroic late equalizer for Inter Miami in the fifth minute of added time in the home fixture against NYCFC at DRV PNK Stadium, rising inside the box to send a header to the back of the net in the fifth minute of added time after a ball from Robert Taylor off of a corner kick.

Not only did Avilés register his first goal for the Club in the game, as he played the entire match, finished with a 87.8% pass completion rate and recorded two interceptions.

With his TOTM inclusion, Avilés becomes the 18th Inter Miami player to feature in an MLS Team of the Matchday so far this regular season.
