Chris Porter added two third-period goals as the Peoria Rivermen came from behind to defeat the Rockford IceHogs 5-3 on Wednesday night at Carver Arena. He now has six goals in his first nine games of the season since joining the Rivermen following the conclusion of the NHL lockout.

T.J. Hensick scored on a penalty shot and finished with three points while Derek Nesbitt (1g, 1a) and Brett Sonne (2a) also finished with multi-point nights. Peoria set a new season-high in shots with 43 and racked up 15 of them in the first period.

Rockford scored the only goal in the first at 14:52 on one of just seven shots. After a friendly bounce wound up on the doorstep, Jimmy Hayes slid the puck to Terry Broadhurst in the crease for his second of the year.

Nesbitt tied the game up at 2:02 into the second period one a one-time setup from Hensick. Hensick received a pass from David Shields behind the net, and threw a backhanded pass to a crashing Nesbitt for his team-leading 16th goal of the year.

Two penalty shots were awarded within a 53-second stretch, one to each team. Mike McKenna stopped Brandon Svendsen at 16:36 followed by Hensick scoring his 12th of the season at 17:29, against Carter Hutton, to give Peoria a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Rockford opened the third period with a five-on-three power play and scored shortly after it returned to five-on-four. Hayes tied the score at 2-2 just 1:26 into the third from Jeremy Morin and Martin St. Pierre. Just 56 seconds later the IceHogs took a 3-2 lead on a goal from Brandon Pirri .

Chris Bruton tied the game again at 8:58 on his fourth of the year. Brett Sonne created a turnover and tossed the puck to Anthony Nigro before Bruton ripped home the equalizer. Then, with the Rivermen on a two-man advantage, Porter scored the game-winner with only 6:17 left in regulation. Mark Cundari slipped him a pass in the low slot and he knuckled the one-timer through Hutton for his first of the night.

He added an empty-netter on a breakaway to cap the game with only 28 seconds remaining.

Peoria outshot Rockford 43-25 and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Rockford went 1-for-6 on the man advantage. The two teams will meet again next Wednesday at Carver Arena.
