
Aeros Squeeze by Stars 2-1 in a Shootout

Cedar Park, TX - The Houston Aeros (25-18-4-3, 57 points) defeated the Texas Stars (28-13-4-4, 47 points) 2-1 in a shootout on Tuesday night in front of 3,718 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (15-16-3) led the Aeros to their third straight win, stopping 36 of 37 shots in regulation and three out of four in the shootout victory. Aeros forward Carson McMillan scored the team's lone goal in regulation, helping the club improve to 12-10-2-1 on the road. Houston's Johan Larsson, Justin Fontaine and Zack Phillips each scored in the shootout. Texas goalie Christopher Nilstorp (17-10-1) stopped 15 of 16 shots in regulation and allowed goals on three of four attempts in the shootout loss. Houston will head to New York, to meet the Rochester Americans, on Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT at the Blue Cross Arena.
Texas claimed a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the opening period. Defenseman Patrik Nemeth snapped a shot from the left-wing circle. Goalie Matt Hackett got a piece of the shot, but the puck dribbled in behind him for the game's opening goal. Forwards Bretton Cameron and Taylor Vause each had an assist on the goal.
Carson McMillan evened the score with a shorthanded tally at 11:41 of the second period. McMillan raced down the right wing wall and snapped a wrist shot past goalie Christopher Nilstorp. His fourth goal of the season made it a 1-1 game.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the teams went to a shootout to decide the winner. Houston's Johan Larsson, Justin Fontaine and Zack Phillips each scored in the shootout. Goalie Matt Hackett stopped three of four attempts in the shootout win.
Houston continues on an eight-game road trip on Friday, Feb. 15 in Rochester at 6:05 p.m. CT. The Aeros return home on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m. as Houston hosts Oklahoma City at Toyota Center. The team will celebrate Boy Scout Night by handing out 2012-13 team posters to the first 2,000 fans.
