PORT HURON STRIKES FOR THREE IN THE THIRD TO DEFEAT KALAMAZOO Kory Karlander Scores Lone Goal for K-Wings in 3-1 Defeat
Kalamazoo, MI- A defensive battle turned offensive for Port Huron, as the IceHawks score three times in the final 20 minutes to defeat Kalamazoo 3-1 at Wings Stadium.
After no scoring in the opening period, Kalamazoo broke the deadlock with a power-play lamp lighter from Kory Karlander (21st). With the goal, Karlander has registered a point in 17 of his last 18 games. The tally was first on the power-play for Kalamazoo in their last 23 chances.
Battling back in the third period, Port Huron's Tab Lardner (27th) sent a shot off of Brad Smith's glove hand and over the goal line 1:12 into the stanza to tie the game at 1-1.
Six minutes later, Jeff Zehr (18th) camped out in front and deflected a Jamie Carroll shot, which proved to be the eventual game-winner.
The Icehawks added some insurance late in the contest in the form of a Rich Hansen (7th) goal giving Port Huron a 3-1 victory.
