Southern Illinois Miners News Release
Marion, IL - Sunday, July 1, bats will be turned into batons for the first ever non-baseball event at Rent One Park. The first annual Pops at the Park concert takes place at the Southern Illinois Miners Ballpark, presented by the Southern Illinois Miners, the Southern Illinois Music Festival and WSIL 3.
The Southern Illinois Music Festival enters its third year of promoting high-quality performing arts in the region and is delighted to add the newest venue in the Southern Illinois region. The festival runs from June 15 to July 4, highlighted by the Pops at the Park concert and post-concert fireworks display taking place July 1 at Rent One Park.
"We have said from the beginning of this project that this will be a multi-purpose facility. Pops at the Park gives us an opportunity to bring a completely different event to the region as well as introduce a different demographic to our facility," said Erik Haag, COO of the Miners. "This will be the first of many non-baseball events we will host at Rent One Park."
The evening plans to be a bouquet for the musical senses featuring the following selections:
National Anthem
Music from Star Wars, The Cowboys and Pirates of the Caribbean
Boston Americans March
America the Beautiful and Armed Forces Salute with chorus
Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man
Andrews Sisters Medley
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, Junghwa Lee, Piano
Stars and Stripes synchronized to a spectacular fireworks show.
"This is a wonderful partnership between our professional music festival and the Southern Illinois Miners baseball club, and a great opportunity to present the music of our great nation to a large audience from throughout the region," said Edward Benyas, the Musical Director of the Southern Illinois Music Festival. "We've performed great patriotic music concerts at the SIU Arena in past seasons; this is a chance to present our program in a new and exciting venue."
"It has been a pleasure working with Ed Benyas, the Music Director of the Southern Illinois Music Festival, in creating this event for the Park. We believe that we are creating an event that the people of Southern Illinois will look forward to attending each year," said Haag.
