
Pope and Oreskovic Return to Stingrays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that forward Matt Pope and defenseman Phil Oreskovic have been reassigned to the team by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Pope, 27, skated in 19 games with the Bears this season scoring three goals and two assists for five points. The Langley, British Columbia, native currently has 19 points (7g, 12a) in 15 games with the Stingrays and leads the team with 11 power-play points (4g, 7a). Pope spent the entire 2010-11 campaign with the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) posting four goals and seven assists in 55 contests.
Selected as a starter for the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game in Reading, Pennsylvania, and named to the 2009 ECHL All-Rookie Team, Pope began his professional career with the Bakersfield Condors (2008-09) recording 63 points (30g, 33a) in 54 contests. He also dressed with the Condors during the 2009-10 season burying four goals and four assists for eight points in six games. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward attended Bemidji State University for four seasons earning 71 points (33g, 38a) in 143 games.
Oreskovic, 25, played in six games with the Bears grabbing one assist. In 34 games with the Stingrays, the North York, Ontario, native has one assist and 44 penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound defenseman competed in 14 games in Hershey netting 22 PIM. Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Oreskovic spent the first four seasons of his pro career with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) totaling 31 points (4g, 27a) in 196 games and battled in 10 matches with the NHL club recording a goal and an assist.
The Stingrays return to action Friday, January 27 against the Trenton Titans at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. The ZOOperstars, hockey's #1 entertainment act, will be performing during the first and second intermissions!
