York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution were held to just an unearned run by Lancaster pitching for the second time in as many nights, as the Barnstormers downed the Revs 3-1 in front of 5,431 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Saturday evening. The Revs, now 0-2 to begin the second half, will look to salvage a game in the series on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.
Lancaster starter Dwayne Pollok (6-0) allowed just the one unearned run in 6.2 innings, scattering seven hits, allowing no walks, and striking out a pair to earn the victory.
The Barnstormers plated two runs in the top of the first inning, never relinquishing their lead. After recording the first two outs, Revs starter Omar Javier allowed four consecutive singles, with Jaime Pedroza and Ryan Harvey each driving in a run to give Lancaster a quick 2-0 advantage. Javier (1-6) allowed nothing further in his three innings of work, but was saddled with the loss.
The Revs scored their only run in the fourth when Andres Perez reached on an error, making it to second base after center fielder Blake Gailen dropped a fly ball. Perez advanced to third on a wild pitch, and James Shanks drove him in with a single up the middle, bringing York within 2-1.
York 's bullpen was outstanding in keeping the game close. Yunior Novoa retired all nine batters in three perfect innings, striking out six, the most by a Revs reliever this season. Kris Regas and Adam Thomas each worked scoreless frames as well.
Lancaster managed an insurance run in the top of the ninth, however, on a Fehlandt Lentini single to left, upping the lead to 3-1. It was the only run the Barnstormers could score after loading the bases with none out, but it was more than enough as Tim Hamulack closed it out with a perfect ninth for his 15th save.
The Revs pieced together their best threat in the seventh when Kyle Haines and Jeff Fiorentino both singled with two outs to end Pollok's night, but Beau Vaughan entered to strike out Scott Grimes and end the inning. Jeff Bennett worked a scoreless eighth for Lancaster's bullpen.
Notes: Of Lancaster's ten hits, all were singles, and four never left the infield. The Revs also failed to record an extra base hit, coming up short in that department for the first time since June 17. The Revs were held to just one run for the third straight game, and lost for the fourth straight game, tying the season's longest losing streak. They are 0-2 to begin a half for the first time since the first half of the 2008 season, and the first time ever in a second half. Lancaster has won six straight, improving to a league-best 47-25 overall, and 32-10 since Memorial Day. This year's "War of the Roses" series is now even at 6-6 with Lancaster having won four straight after the Revs had won the previous four in-a-row. Grimes went 2-for-4 and stole a pair of bases for York, as he is now 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts on the season. Haines also had a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3. York's Corey Thurman (8-1, 4.64) will face Lancaster's Alan Johnson (7-4, 5.27) in the series finale at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is Emergency Responders Day presented by Compleat Restorations, and features a Post-Game "Man on Fire" stunt event performed by Ted Batchelor, presented by Keystone Restorations & Builders. The day begins with a Full Team Pre-Game Autograph Session and Catch on the Field presented by Runkle's Notary & Insurance, and concludes with Post-Game Kids Run the Bases. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
