Bluefish Bats Take Down Flock

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 14, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-0, 33-39) defeated the Long Island Ducks (0-2, 39-32) by a score of 10-5 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday. Bridgeport is now 8-4 against Long Island this season. It was the first time all season that the Bluefish had scored nine or more runs in three consecutive games.
With the Bluefish trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Bridgeport plated six runs in the frame. James Simmons drove a three-run homer to left to tie the game. It was his third Later in the frame, Eddie Rogers drove an RBI single to left and Brock Peterson smacked a two-run single to center.
Long Island trimmed the lead to one before the Bluefish pushed across four runners in the sixth. The big shot was a three-run homer by Eddie Rogers on the first delivery from Ducks reliever Jeremy Hill. Kennard Jones contributed an RBI single to center to increase the lead to 7-5 before the Rogers homer.
Rogers finished with four hits(one triple shy of the cycle), four RBI, and two runs scored. Peterson produced three hits, reached base four times and drove in two while Luis Rodriguez came to the plate twice and collected three hits.
Josh Johnson drove in three runners for the losing side. Brandon Sing and Reid Gorecki brought in the other baserunners for the road team.
Bridgeport starter, Dan Serafini (3-0), picked up the victory as the southpaw completed six innings and surrendered five runs on six hits and two walks. The lefthander fanned one. Matt Pike finished two frames of scoreless baseball. The righthanded reliever gave up two hits and struck out one. Long island produced one hit and struck out twice in the ninth inning against Kyle Zaleski.
Ducks starter, Bob Zimmermann (4-3), suffered the loss as the righthanded hurler threw five-and-two-thirds innings of nine run, nine hit, four walk, and two strikeout baseball. A combination of three Long Island relievers threw the final two-and-a-third innings. The tandem allowed one run on four hits the rest of the way.
Bridgeport finishes a three game series against the Long Island Ducks on Sunday. First pitch is slated for 2:05 PM. Bridgeport will send righthanded pitcher, Jonah Bayliss (2-5, 4.80 ERA), to the hill against Long Island righthanded starter Jason Monti (5-4, 4.04 ERA). The gates open one hour before first pitch. There is an autograph session before the game and kids get to run the bases after the game ends.
