December 1, 2011 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Plymouth Whalers News Release
The first place Plymouth Whalers (17-8-2-1) spend the next two weekends at home, starting Friday against Sault Ste. Marie (14-11-1-1) and Saturday against Guelph (12-9-1-3). Both games start at 7:05pm at Compuware Arena.
Each game will be broadcast on 88.1FM WSDP The Escape starting at 6:45pm on both evenings.
Besides the good action on the ice, they'll be plenty of activities around the arena on both evenings.
From noon-6pm on Friday, the Whalers are hosting a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Although some fans have booked appointments between noon and 2pm, there are plenty of appointments available from 2-5pm. Anyone attempting to give blood will receive two tickets for an upcoming Whalers game.
For more information and to book an appointment, please go to www.plymouthwhalers.com.
The goal is to break the Whalers blood drive record of 48 pints.
Friday is another $5 Fridays night, sponsored by our friends at 99.5FM WYCD Detroit's Country. Certain sections of Compuware Arena are offered for $5 every Friday Whalers home game. More and more people are taking advantage of $5 Fridays as the season wears on.
On Saturday, Plymouth host Guelph in the Whalers annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans a cordially requested to bring a teddy bear or stuffed aniumal to the game. The first time the Whalers score on Saturday (and Alex Aleardi scored a little over three minutes into the Teddy Bear game against London last season), fans are requested to throw the bears on the ice, and with the help of the Plymouth Community United Way, we'll find a home for the animals.
As they have in past years, the Whalers Booster Club will be selling Teddy Bears before the game.
Next week, the Whalers host Belleville (17-9-0-0) on Friday and Sarnia (15-6-1-4) on Saturday before finishing up the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule Fri. Dec. 16 in Oshawa and Sat. Dec. 17 in Belleville.
