Platers Product Scott Walker Honoured in Owen Sound

The Owen Sound Attack paid tribute to former Platers fan favourite Scott Walker prior to puck drop against the Guelph Storm on Tuesday.

A commemorative banner featuring a young Walker now joins fellow Owen Sound OHL legends in Andrew Brunette, Kirk Maltby and Dan Snyder atop the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

Walker, who played two seasons in Owen Sound from 1991-93, was a force on the blue line with the Platers, setting a single season franchise record for defencemen in 1992-93 with 91 points (23-68-91) over 57 games.

The Cambridge, Ont. native went on the play 829 career regular season NHL contests as a winger, recording 397 points (151-246-397) in the process while also competing in three Ice Hockey World Championships with Team Canada.

Following his playing career, Walker become part of the ownership group of the Guelph Storm, coaching the club to an OHL Championship in 2014, coming within one win of a Memorial Cup title. He is now a special assistant to the general manager with the Arizona Coyotes and remains co-owner of the Storm franchise.
