New Jersey Jackals News Release
Pittsfield, MA - New Jersey Jackals starter Isaac Pavlik turned in an uncharacteristically poor performance as the Pittsfield Colonials banged out 21 hits en route to a 17-4 win on Sunday night at Wahconah Park.
After New Jersey center fielder Kevin Clark and Pittsfield shortstop Matt Nandin traded solo home runs in the first, the Colonials erupted for six runs on seven singles again Jackals' starter Isaac Pavlik in the bottom of the second. The Colonials' rally was aided by a pair of New Jersey errors to take an early 7-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, third baseman Jovan Rosa singled home first baseman Jabe Bergeron after a leadoff double to make it a 7-2 contest before catcher Dean Forthun laced his first career home run, a two-run liner off the left field foul pole, to cut the Jackals deficit to 7-4.
But from there, the Colonials plated ten unanswered runs to cap the scoring in the Jackals worst loss of the season.
Pavlik was tagged for 12 runs, 10 earned, on 14 hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and didn't surrender a walk. Pavlik had won all three of his starts entering the day. Pittsfield southpaw Dave Qualben yielded four runs in six innings, but pitched well enough to earn his second win of the season.
The Jackals and Colonials continue their four-game series on Monday at 2:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends southpaw A.J. Wideman (3-4, 4.24) to the mound against right-hander Kyle Zaleski (3-1, 2.90). Cody Chrusciel has the live call on the Jackals webcast beginning 10 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.

Jackal Bites: Pittsfield's Jerod Edmondson snapped an 0-for-52 slump with a two-run single in the fifth inning. He added a solo home run two at-bats later in the eighth... Clark's home run was his fourth of the season and his third against Dave Qualben... Clark homered twice off Qualben in game one of a doubleheader on June 2 at Wahconah Park... The 17 runs and 21 hits were the most New Jersey has allowed in a game this year... Rookie Dan Betteridge collected his first career hit in his first start when he led off the third inning with a single... Outfielder Taylor Ferguson, who signed earlier in the day, went 0-for-4 in his professional debut... Forthun and third baseman Jovan Rosa each went 2-for-4 and were the only two Jackals with multiple hits in the contest.
