
Colonials Explode for 21 Hits on Fourth of July, Win 17-4

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials smashed 21 hits in front of a sell-out crowd at Wahconah Park on Sunday night to beat the New Jersey Jackals 17-4
The Pittsfield starting line-up saw every batter register at least one hit in the game en-route to a lopsided victory in front of 4,200 fans at Wahconah Park. Shortstop Matt Nandin (3-for-6, HR, 3 RBI) belted his third homer of the season and enjoyed a three hit night, while third baseman Jason Taylor (3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI) and designated hitter Scott Knazek (3-for-4, RBI) also recorded three hits in the attack. Outfielder Dan Carte (2-for-4, RBI) extended his league high hitting streak to 24 consecutive games while teammate Jerod Edmondson (2-for-6, HR, 3 RBI) snapped out of an 0-for-52 slump with a three RBI performance, including his fifth home run of the season.
Colonials' starter David Qualben (2-4) earned the win over six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks, and two strike-outs. Relievers Justin Mattes, Rafael Lluberes, and Shannon Sprouse combined to throw three scoreless innings to finish the game.
Jackals' starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik (3-2) took the loss over four and one-third innings, giving-up twelve runs (ten earned) on 14 hits and four strike-outs. The Jackals bullpen was tagged for five runs while the defense committed five errors in the game.
The Colonials will play game three of the series on Monday afternoon at 2:05pm, when righty Kyle Zaleski (3-1) takes the ball against New Jerseys' A.J. Wideman (3-4).
