Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - It was a true team effort as six different pitchers saw the mound and six different hitters recorded a single hit for the Ogden Raptors (11-8, 30-27) in a 4-2 win over the Helena Brewers (4-15, 20-25) on Wednesday night.
Making his second start, Kevin Brown scattered three hits in three scoreless innings. After retiring the first two batters in the bottom half of the inning, Helena starter J.B. Kole walked Jordan Paroubeck. Scott De Jong then popped a 2-1 pitch to shallow centerfield that fell between three Brewer defenders. Shortstop Jake Gatewood accidentally kicked the ball to the outfield, allowing Paroubeck to score all the way from first. Matt Jones then followed suit with an RBI double that scored De Jong to put the Raptors in front 2-0.
Colin Hering relieved Brown and gave up just two hits in two scoreless innings of relief. After Jones led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a walk, Jake Henson doubled to score Jones, who dislodged the ball from Brewers catcher Milan Post at the plate to make it 3-0.
Jose Santos struck out two batters in the sixth inning, but gave up a solo home run to Jose Cuas in the sixth. It was Cuas' second home run of the series. Gage Green got the run back with an RBI single to score Alex Santana in the bottom half of the inning. Then, Carlos Belonis hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to make it a 4-2 game.
Bernardo Reyes replaced Santos and got the final two outs of the inning. Corey Copping pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Marcus Crescentini struck out two in the ninth inning for his second save of the season. Crescentini has now struck out seven batters in his last three innings.
"The ninth inning is my favorite part of baseball. I thrive, I love the ninth inning," Crescentini said. "You're all your team has left pretty much. You're out there to shut the game down, to win the game for your team, and there's no better feeling than accomplishing that. (see Marcus Crescentini's postgame interview above)
Hering (3-0) earned the win and Kole (0-4) picked up the loss. Ogden is alone in second place in the South Division with Orem losing 5-0 at Missoula. Idaho Falls beat Billings and maintains a three-game lead over the Raptors.
"The key for our success so far has been the team chemistry. Everybody is getting along great," Crescentini said. "We believe that we are the best team now."
The final game of the series begins Thursday night at 7:00pm MT. Ogden's Jairo Pacheco (4-3, 4.32) will face Helena's Drake Owenby (1-1, 6.52) in a battle of southpaws.
