GF SHUTS DOWN ROCKIES
The Voyagers made it two wins in a row over the Rockies Wednesday, taking a pitcher's duel 2-1 to claim the season series. Great Falls tallied the contest's first run in the second, as Ryan Jones plated Dante Flores with a two-out single. The lead held until the sixth when Grand Junction tied it up against the Voyager bullpen. Mylz Jones started the inning with a double, and Collin Ferguson then singled him home to make it 1-1. The game did not stay tied for long as Joxelier Garcia was hit by a pitch to start the next inning, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Louis Silverio. The lead held over the last three innings as Chris Freudenberg put up a zero in the seventh and Alex Katz retired all six he faced to earn his second save.
CRUZIN' ALONG
Infielder Johan Cruz went 1-for-4 in last night's win, extending his hitting streak to nine, the longest current run by a Voyager. The 19-year old owns the two longest streaks by a Great Falls hitter this year, with a 12-game run and a 10-gamer. For the season, Cruz is hitting .328, the eighth-highest average in the PL.
STARTING STRONG
Great Falls starting pitching has been a strength all season long, and that continued last night as righty Lucas Shearrow allowed three hits in five scoreless innings in his second start of 2015. In two starts, the 24-year old has now yielded just one earned run over nine innings, but has lost once and had one no decision. Shearrow's performance last night lowered his season ERA to 3.78, and dropped the collective ERA of Voyagers starters to 3.17. Tonight Great Falls will look to keep their strong run of starting pitching going as they send lefty Tanner Banks to the hill. The former Utah Ute owns a 1.93 ERA, the lowest among all qualified Pioneer League pitchers. This will be Banks' first start against Grand Junction.
DANTE'S INFERNO
Dante Flores has been hot during his last 10 games for Great Falls, having posted six multi-hits efforts in that span, including three in a row. The Norwalk, Calif. native is 14-for-39 (.359) during this stretch, which also includes a career-high three hits at Orem on August 7. Flores is now hitting .297 this year.
