Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

Staten Island, NY - Valente Bellozo picked up the win, and Angel Macuare the save, as the two ValleyCats pitchers limited Staten Island to just three hits in a 2-1 victory over the Yankees on a steamy Tuesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Bellozo (2-0) struck out four Yankees in his five innings of work, while Macuare struck out five in four innings, allowing just one earned run on an RBI ground out in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The ValleyCats provided early run support for Bellozo, taking advantage of a tough start to the ballgame for Staten Island starter Blakely Brown who struggled with his control.

Two hit by pitches, a passed ball and wild pitch, all led to an RBI ground out from C.J. Stubbs to give the 'Cats a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, AJ Lee scored the 'Cats second run after he doubled to left, moved to third on a passed ball, and crossed the plate on an RBI ground out from Andres Santana.

That was all the offense the ValleyCats would need, as they evened the series with the Yankees at one a piece.

'Cats catcher Nate Perry went 2-for-4 at the dish, while Luis Santana also chipped in with two hits on the night.

The ValleyCats improved their record to 7-10, while the Yankees fell to 10-7. They'll be back at it on Wednesday night in Staten Island, a 7:00pm start that will see Lupe Chavez (0-0, 0.69 ERA) take the ball for the 'Cats.
