Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers received another stellar pitching performance on Friday evening, and, as a result, move closer to a first half title.
Mark Brackman fired seven shutout innings, striking out eight, as the Barnstormers shut out the York Revolution, 5-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The win gives the Barnstormers a seven-game lead with 16 to play in the first half. Lancaster and York still meet six more times.
Brackman (3-3) yielded five hits and two walks. He stared down two significant threats. After setting down the first eight batters of the night, he yielded a two-out single to Salvador Paniagua in the third. Brandon Haveman nailed a double to the wall in left center, and Scott Grimes walked to load the bags. Ramon Castro took a cut at Brackman's first pitch and popped weakly to first.
York made noise again in the seventh with a two-out double to left by Liu Rodriguez and a single by Danny Gonzalez. Brackman got Paniagua on a pop up to second to maintain the shutout.
The Revolution also loaded the bases with one out in the eighth with a single and two walks against the bullpen before Jason Urquidez was able to pick up a strikeout and pop up to hold the 5-0 lead.
The Barnstormers built a lead for Brackman in bits and pieces. Blake Gailen singled with one out in the first and raced to third on a Terry Tiffee single to right. York could only get a force play on Fehlandt Lentini's grounder to the hole at short as Gailen scored the first run.
Emerson Frostad doubled with one out in the second, took third on a wild pitch and scored when Francisco Hernandez grounder skipped under third baseman Liu Rodriguez' glove for an error.
In the fourth, it was Frostad again igniting the offense with a single to right. He stole second as Hernandez swung and missed on a third strike and moved to third on a single to left by Adam Godwin. Gailen drilled a single into right for a 3-0 lead and, following a double steak, Godwin scored on Lentini's trickler up the third base line.
Frostad walked to start the eighth and eventually crossed the plate for the third time in the game.
The Revolution will host the Barnstormers again on Saturday evening at 6:30. Lancaster will send left-hander John Halama (5-3) to the hill against fellow southpaw Matt Chico (0-1). Fans may tune in to 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com and the I Heart Radio cell phone app, starting at 6:15.
