Pitching Holds Hammerheads

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Ty Boyles tossed a season-best 5 1/3 scoreless innings in Daytona's 1-0 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads Friday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in front of 2,196 spectators.

Boyles (2-2) yielded a hit, two walks, and punched out two Jupiter hitters in his start. RHP Jake Paulson followed in relief for the next 2 2/3 innings, fanning four, and permitting just one hit. RHP Tanner Rainey struck out the side in the ninth to earn his second save of 2017.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Blake Butler and Nick Senzel singled and moved into scoring position for Gavin LaValley with two outs in the stanza. Jupiter starter LHP Ben Holmes threw the lone wild pitch of the contest, enabling Butler to score and put Daytona in the lead.

Holmes (0-3) tossed five innings of one-run ball, surrendering six hits and two walks for the Hammerheads.

The second game of the six-game homestand is set for 7:05 PM on Saturday evening at The Jack. The best fireworks show in Volusia County will be held after the completion of the game. RHP Wendolyn Bautista (1-0, 2.38) will face off against Jupiter RHP Felipe Gonzalez (2-2, 4.26) on the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.

The Tortugas have now won three-straight in the season series from the Hammerheads and three straight overall...Daytona broke its three-game losing streak in series openers with the win on Friday...The Tortuga pitching staff has thrown 23 straight scoreless innings and has allowed just three runs over the last 36 frames...Chadwick Tromp extended his hitting streak to six contests
