Daytona Tortugas News Release
FORT MYERS, FL - RHP Jesus Reyes tossed a career best 7 2/3 shut out innings, as the Tortugas blanked the Fort Myers Miracle, 7-0, Thursday at CenturyLink Sports Complex.
Reyes (3-0) posted his third start of at least seven frames, allowing six hits, no walks, and striking out two Miracle hitters. RHP Sandy Lugo permitted just one hit over the last 1 1/3 innings.
The offense got going in the fourth. Reydel Medina doubled and then promptly scored on a Chadwick Tromp RBI single to left. Chris Okey would single home Tromp and Narciso Crook to notch his first RBIs of the year, putting Daytona in the lead, 3-0, after four frames.
The aforementioned Crook slammed a two-run bomb, his fourth of the year, to left in the sixth inning off of Miracle starter RHP Keaton Steele to extend the lead, 5-0. The home run traveled out of the stadium.
The Tortugas tallied two more insurance runs in the ninth. After a Mitch Piatnik single and Blake Butler double, Gavin LaValley brought home Piatnik with a run-scoring single. Butler would come in later in the stanza on an infield single off the bat of Tromp.
Steele (1-4) yielded nine hits and five earned runs over six innings of work to drop to 0-3 against Daytona in his career.
