Pitcher of the Week Leads Wingnuts to Win

ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the St. Paul Saints 3-2 at Midway Stadium on Tuesday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, Greg Porter singled through the left side to open the inning. Dustan Mohr doubled down the left field line, advancing Porter to third. A wild pitch thrown by starter Mitch Wylie scored Porter and moved Mohr to third base. After Kelly Hunt struck out, Joe Muich grounded a single through the Saints' drawn in infield to tie the game.

Tied at 2-2 in the eighth, singles by Josh Horn and Nick Blasi, and an intentional walk to Greg Porter loaded the bases with one out for Dustan Mohr. New reliever Mike Bille hit Mohr with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run and give the Wingnuts their first lead of the night.

Derek Blacksher pitched a season-high 7.2 IP, allowing two earned runs for his eighth win of the season. Blacksher struck out seven and walked none, throwing 112 pitches. Blacksher exited with the tying run on base in the bottom of the eighth, giving way to Justin Young. Young allowed the tying run to reach second on a wild pitch, but came back to stirke out Brent Krause to end the inning.

Joe D'Alessandro slammed the door on the win in the ninth, pitching a perfect inning, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

Porter's single extended his hitting streak to 13 games in a row. Mohr was credited with his 60th RBI of the season.

The Wingnuts and Saints continue their series Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. sending Brad Davis to the mound against right-hander Tom Buske. The Wingnuts return home on Tuesday, August 18th when they host the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. The 75th annual NBC World Series continues at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium through August 15th.
