Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

FORT WORTH, Texas. - For the second start in a row, Shreveport-Bossier Captains lefty Logan Williamson could not get out of the fifth inning, as the Fort Worth Cats tagged him for eight runs, turning an early 2-1 deficit into a 15-4 laugher at LaGrave Field on Tuesday night.

Shreveport-Bossier (37-35, 15-9 2nd half) has now lost five of six, but maintained its one-game lead over Pensacola in the South Division 2nd half standings. The Pelicans lost to Grand Prairie Tuesday night, with the AirHogs climbing to within a game and a half of the Captains.

Lefty Joel Kirsten (8-4) pitched seven innings to beat the Captains for the third straight time. He allowed Shreveport-Bossier to take the lead in the first on a leadoff single by Bryan Sabatella and a double down the leftfield line by Richard Paz. But the Cats (41-31, 11-13) tied it up right back on an RBI single by Michael Bell.

The Captains replicated their first inning in the second, as Jonathan Reynoso singled and then scored on a double by Dwayne White to give them a 2-1 lead. After Williamson (8-4) escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam to keep the Cats off the board in the second, Fort Worth took the lead for good in the third. Five straight hits started the inning, before a double play brought home the third and final run of the frame to give the Cats a 4-2 advantage.

Kirsten sent the Captains down quickly in the third, and Fort Worth went right back to work against Williamson. Brian Fryer started the frame with a bunt single that Williamson threw away for a two-base error. Cameron Blair then singled him in. Patrick O'Sullivan was then hit by a pitch, and after a groundout, Bell doubled home both runners to make it 7-2.

Williamson walked Isa Garcia on four pitches to start the fifth, and was then removed for Derrick Miramontes. The rookie righthander, who started the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, was hit hard for four hits and three runs, as well as an inherited runner to give the Cats an 11-2 lead after five.

Jose Torres provided the only offense after that for the Captains, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 11-4, but Allen answered with a two-run shot in the seventh, and the Cats tagged Joe Urtuzuastegui with two in the eighth, mopping up for the third time this season.

Notes: Christopher Garcia's streak of 10 straight games with at least two hits came to an end with his 0-for-4 night, as did his 12-game hitting streak...Andres Rodriguez was the only Captain to reach two hits in the game...All nine Cats had at least one hit, and eight had at least one RBI and run scored...Allen and Bell went 7-for-9 with eight RBIs alone...Urtuzuastegui's two runs were his first earned runs allowed this season...This is the first time the Cats have won a game from the Captains this year that has not been the second game of the series...18 of Fort Worth's 22 hits were singles, with three doubles and the Allen homer.

The Shreveport-Bossier Captains have an off day on Monday before heading off to Fort Worth for three games against the Cats, starting at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4. The Captains are back home on Friday, August 7 to take on the Grand Prairie AirHogs at 7:05 p.m., with a 1st Choice Personnel Team Photo Giveaway.
