Pit Spitters Throw First Shutout of the Season

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters improve to a 13-4 record after a 3-0 win to the Battle Creek Battle Jacks this evening, taking game one of the two game series. The pitching staff threw their first shutout of the season, giving up only four hits.

Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, 1,541 fans watched the first combined shut out tonight from the Pit Spitters bullpen. The Pit Spitters offense pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, allowing the pitching staff to settle in throwing their first shutout.

The offense started slowly, but the Pit Spitters had their first scoring opportunity with one out in the bottom of third inning Brendan Summerhill and Parker Brosius drew back-to-back walks; however, the Pit Spitters were unable to capitalize as Colin Summerhill flew out to right field to end the inning, stranding two. The offense picked up when the Pit Spitters scored three runs at the bottom of the fourth inning, lead off by Brendan Summerhill doubled and brought around one, followed by a Tyler Minnick walk with bases loaded, then with bases loaded again, Glenn Miller drew a walk extending the score to 3-0. Battle Creek had an opportunity to cut into the Pit Spitters lead in the top of the seventh loading the bases with one out, but Nate Blain shut them down with a strike three swinging keeping the score at 3-0.

The Pit Spitters improve to 13-4 on the season, as the Battle Jacks drop to 5-11. Pit Spitters starting pitcher Jayden Dentler (2-0) made his third start of the season, throwing four innings, and improving his ERA to 1.13 on the season. Nate Blain (4-0) came in for relief in the fifth inning, and continued his lights out stuff, throwing four innings, and earning his league leading, fourth win of the season. Mitch White (0-0) came in for the save in the top of the ninth, and struck out one, walking one, earning his second save of the season.
