
Pit Spitters Shutout Growlers in Series Opener

Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters pitching staff was again the story Tuesday night, as they shut out the Kalamazoo Growlers to take a 6-0 win. The Pit Spitters pitching staff entered play with the best ERA and WHIP in the Northwoods League and continued their strong form, allowing only six hits and one walk over nine innings.
The Pit Spitters got out to an early lead in the contest behind a pair of two out RBI doubles, one by Michael Slaten (JR Benedictine) in the third inning, and another by Adam Proctor (SO Michigan State) in the fourth. The home side would double their lead in the fifth inning after working four walks and a hit by pitch, and tack on two more runs in the sixth behind a two RBI Andrew Morrow (JR Michigan State) triple. Mario Camilletti (SO Oakland) added to the attack with a single, walk, and two stolen bases.
Pit Spitters starting pitcher Pat Hohlfeld (SO Jefferson) worked six shutout innings to take the victory, improving to 4-0 on the season. The performance marked his third consecutive quality start. He was followed by scoreless relief innings from Will Buraconak (JR Indiana State,) Pit Spitters debutant Mason Sherrill (JR Olivet Nazarene,) and Joe Pace (JR Michigan.) Combined, the bullpen allowed just one hit over three innings, while striking out five.
The Pit Spitters return to action Wednesday, with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Kalamazoo Growlers. Every Wednesday is "Hometown Heroes Wednesday," at Pit Spitters Park, with all active military and veterans, first responders, snow-plow drivers, and fans over the age of 50 receiving half-price tickets at the box office and there will be a post-game fireworks display. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m.
