November 23rd-29th

The Pirates won three of their four games last week and captured seven of a possible eight points in the process. Further to that, the Pirates have registered at least one point in the standings in each of their last six games, going 4- 0-2-0 during the stretch.

Last week's play began with a 2-1 OT loss Tuesday night against the Norfolk Admirals. Kyle Wanvig netted the lone Pirates goal, but it wasn't enough as Brandon Bochenski scored midway through overtime to lift the Admirals to a 2-1 victory in front of 3,858 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The following night the Pirates played at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA and posted a 5-3 victory over the Sharks. Mark Mancari scored twice for the Pirates including the game winner. Tyler Ennis added a goal and two assists for the Pirates while Derek Whitmore and Jeff Cowan rounded out the goal scoring. Nathan Gerbe also collected two helpers. The Sharks outshot the Pirates 32-29 in the game as J.P. Lamoureux posted the victory.

Friday the Pirates completed a home-and-home series against the Sharks as Gerbe scored a goal and an assist to lead the Pirates to a 3-1 win. Cowan and Philip Gogulla also scored for the Pirates while Lamoureux turned aside 32 shots in a first star performance. Ennis added two assists as the Pirates posted back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Saturday the Pirates wrapped up a stretch of four games in five days as Matt Generous and Drew Schiestel scored their first career goals on the way to a 4-2 win over Admirals. Felix Schutz, with his first of the season, and Cody McCormick also scored for the Pirates, who posted their third straight win.

The Pirates completed a stretch of seven games in 11 days capturing 10 of a possible 14 points to move to 9-10-2-0 on the season.

This Week:

The Pirates play the first three games of a four-game road stretch. Friday the Pirates face the Hartford Wolf Pack (11-8-0-1) at the XL Center at 7 PM faceoff. Saturday they travel to Lowell to face the Devils (12-6-3-0) at the Tsongas Arena at 7:00 PM, before completing the weekend in Springfield against the Falcons (10-6-3-1) at the MassMutual Center Sunday at 3 PM. All three games can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on-line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening faceoff.

The Wolf Pack (11-8-0-1) is ranked fourth among the Atlantic Division and have won seven out of their last 10 games.

Forward Corey Locke is first among AHL scorers with 30 points in 20 games.

Rookie goalie Chad Johnson ranks ninth among AHL goalies, with 29 goals allowed in 397 shots.

Saturday, November 28, 2009 @ Lowell Devils (Tsongas Arena), 7 PM

Lowell ranks first in the Atlantic Division with a 12-6-3-0 record and have won five straight on home ice

Forward Vladimir Zharkov has 20 points in 21 games and is ranked 12th among AHL scorers.

Former Pirates goalie Mike McKenna ranks 15th among AHL goalies with 2.27 goals against average.

Sunday, November 29, 2009 @ Springfield Falcons (MassMutual Center), 3 PM

Springfield (10-6-3-1) ranks third in the Atlantic Division and have won six out of their last 10 games.

Forward Charles Linglet has earned 23 points in 20 games, and is ranked third among AHL scorers.

Springfield has won both games against Portland this season.
