Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... After claiming an early 1-0 lead, the Rochester Americans used a four-goal third period to earn their third straight win tonight, defeating the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-2 at Copps Coliseum. The win improves Rochester to 2-0-0-0 this season against the Bulldogs and to 15-2-1-0 overall as it has now won 14 of its last 15 games.

David Brine paced Rochester's offense tonight with a goal and an assist as defenseman Jordan Henry also chipped in a pair of assists and finished the night with a plus-four on-ice rating. Rookie goaltender Alexander Salak, who started his 11th consecutive game between the pipes, posted 28 saves to garner his league-leading 12th win of the campaign.

Mike Glumac and P.K. Subban each contributed a goal and an assist for the hometown Bulldogs as David Desharnais picked up assists on both Hamilton goals. Former NHL veteran netminder Curtis Sanford kicked away 25 saves in the losing effort.

After a scoreless opening first period, Rochester took an early 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the second stanza as Michael Duco potted his third goal of the season. Mike York recorded the lone helper on the play for his team-leading 12th assist this season. The Amerks would maintain the one-goal lead heading into the final frame.

Rochester would quickly extends its lead to 3-0 with goals 47 seconds apart from Graham Mink and Andrew Sweetland, respectively, to help jumpstart the Amerks' four-goal third period. Sweetland's goal, his second in as many games, proved to be the game-winner at 3:57 of the frame.

Glumac's goal just 14 seconds later at 4:11 cut the deficit to 3-1, but the lead was short-lived, however, as Brine's team-leading eighth goal again put the Amerks up by three. Subban managed to cut the lead in half on the power-play late in the contest, but yet again the Amerks remain unscathed in the final minutes of regulation.

In an effort to get an extra attacker on the ice, Hamilton summoned Sanford to the bench leaving the goal unoccupied. After a failed attempt by the Bulldogs to maintain possession, the puck landed on the stick of veteran forward Jeff Taffe and ultimately in the back of net to round out the scoring for Rochester. The goal, Taffe's sixth of the season, could not have been more appropriate as he set a personal milestone tonight skating in his 500th professional game.

The Amerks return home on Friday, November 27th as they welcome the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to town for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The 7:05 p.m. Black Friday contest will be the first of four meetings this season with the Baby Pens and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The matchup will also be televised live on Channel 98.
