Massachusetts Pirates News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed former National Football League wide receiver Jalin Marshall as they look to defend their Indoor Football League championship. This will be the fourth professional league for Marshall, who also has experience as a kick returner.

The 5'10," 200 lb. product out of Ohio State most recently played in the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he appeared in nine games from 2019 through 2021 making ten receptions for 159 yards. He also had one rush that resulted in a five yard touchdown. Marshall returned two kickoffs for 23 yards for Hamilton.

Marshall began his pro career as an undrafted free agent in 2016, signing with the New York Jets. He played in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals returning three kickoffs for 36 yards and two punts for 5 yards. His first receptions came a week later in a 37-31 win at Buffalo where he pulled in three catches for 45 yards. Marshall scored his first NFL touchdown on November 6, in a 27-23 setback at Miami on an 18-yard throw from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Marshall finished the season with 14 receptions for 162 yards and two scores. He also returned 13 kickoffs for 324 yards and 18 punts for 100 yards.

In 2017 he was a member of the Jets practice squad and remained under contract until April of 2018. The following season he signed with the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football. Marshall has the distinction of scoring the first touchdown in AAF history, doing so against the Atlanta Legends. In eight games Marshall had 26 receptions for 364 yards and three touchdowns. He also had one rush for two yards, had a 2-point conversion and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass. After the AAF ceased operations, Marshall signed for a brief time with the Oakland Raiders.

A five-star recruit at Ohio's Middletown High School as a quarterback and receiver, Marshall committed to Ohio State and redshirted in 2013. In 2014 he compiled 38 receptions, which was second all-time in the program for a first year player. Only Chris Carter had more (41) in 1984 as a freshman. In 15 games he totaled 499 yards and six touchdowns for the National Champions. Marshall ran 25 times for 145 yards and a score. He added 24 punt returns for 283 yards and a touchdown along with two kickoff returns for 15 yards. In the Buckeyes 42-20 win over Oregon for the National Championship, Marshall led all OSU receivers with five receptions.
