Pirates Over-Power Wolf Pack

Hartford, CT - Cody McCormick scored two goals and added an assist to help lead the Portland Pirates to a 5-2 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,544 at the XL Center.

Tyler Ennis, Philip Gogulla and Brad Larsen also scored for the Pirates while Kyle Wanvig and Marc-Andre Gragnani collected two assists each. The Pirates ended a three-game winless streak with the victory and extended their road point streak to eight games (5-0-2-1). Portland is now 13-11-3-2 on the season.

Ryan Garlock and Brodie Dupont scored for the Wolf Pack, who dropped to 13-12-1-2 with the loss and extended their winless streak to six games (0-4-1-1).

The Wolf Pack led 1-0 after one as Garlock capitalized on a shorthanded two-on-none. McCormick evened things up late in the second to send the two teams into the final period of regulation tied at one. McCormick struck again in the opening minute of the third to give the Pirates their first lead of the game only to see Dupont strike with Hartford's second shorthanded goal of the game to even things up at two. Ennis answered 1:57 later to restore the Portland one-goal lead, a goal that proved to be the game winner.

Portland out shot the Wolf Pack 29-18 in the game as Jhonas Enroth posted the victory.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were all from the Pirates. McCormick was the first, Gragnani the second and Wanvig the third.

The Pirates get back at it tomorrow (Saturday) night in Springfield against the Falcons at 7 p.m. The game can be heard live on News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.

The next Pirates homes games take place December 18th and 19th when the Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers visit the Cumberland County Civic Center respectively.
