NORFOLK, Va. - Aaron Rome's late third period power play goal propelled the Manitoba Moose (16-12-4-0) past the Norfolk Admirals (12-15-1-0) 4-1 on Friday night in the first ever meeting between the clubs at Norfolk Scope Arena.

The Moose took a 1-0 lead 14:17 into the contest. Guillaume Desbiens sent a pass from the left corner toward the right point as Aaron Rome crossed the blue line entering the attacking zone. Rome one-timed the puck past a screened Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski.

Norfolk knotted the score at 1-1 midway through the second period. Brandon Bochenski attempted a shot from the left circle that went wide behind the net. Radek Smolenak took the puck and sent a wraparound on goal near the left leg of Manitoba goaltender Cory Schneider. The puck caromed off the stick of a Moose defender and popped up over the left shoulder of Schneider and down into the net at 12:12.

The Moose took the lead for good with a power play goal at 14:32 of the final frame. Once again, Aaron Rome teed up a slap shot from the high slot that made its way through a maze of bodies and past a blocked Tokarski.

Manitoba iced the game with a pair of late empty net goals, as Matt Pettinger scored at 18:55 and Marty Murray at 19:29.

Dustin Tokarski (30 shots, 28 saves) took the loss. Cory Schneider (29 shots, 28 saves) earned the win.

Norfolk was 0-5 on the power play. Manitoba was 1-3.

The Admirals and Moose will play once again tomorrow night at Scope at 7:15.
