Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME – The Portland Pirates are helping to celebrate the 24th year of the Friendly's "Cones for Kids" program and the 2005 Valentine's Day fundraiser to benefit local Easter Seals. The Pirates have partnered with Friendly's to assist in the "Cones for Kids" campaign by selling coupon books at Pirates games. Starting on January 15th the coupon books will be available at Pirates games to help raise money for Easter Seals. Plus Pirates players will be visiting two local Friendly's locations as "Celebrity Scoopers." Pirates players Boyd Gordon, Brian Sutherby and Steve Eminger will be "Celebrity Scoopers" at the Friendly's in Westbrook, ME on Wednesday, January 19th from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. All tips to the players during the event will go directly to Easter Seals. A second group of Pirates players will also be serving as "Celebrity Scoopers" at the Friendly's location at the Maine Mall on January 29th from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

"Our people believe in the mission of Easter Seals, we know that the dollars we raise help children," says Todd Mosher, division manager for Friendly's in Maine and member of the Easter Seals Maine Board of Directors. "We're also happy to report that the ‘Cones For Kids' campaign is getting strong local support from the Portland Pirates who have joined us this year as a campaign partner."

"This is a great opportunity for us to partner with Friendly's to support a tremendous organization in Easter Seals, which has helped so many children over the years. It gives us great pride to be a part of this campaign and we look forward to raising much needed awareness and funds at our games," said the Pirates Managing Owner/CEO Brian Petrovek.

"Cones for Kids" has been a winter tradition up-and-down the East Coast since 1981. Each year, employees across the restaurant chain help change the lives of thousands of children and adults with disabilities through their efforts -- raising $22 million to date; $870,000 in 2004 alone. For a dollar donation to Easter Seals, Friendly's provides restaurant guests with either a Kids' Valentine's Day card, redeemable for Five Free Friendly's Kid Cones, or a valuable Adult Coupon Booklet worth more than $35. The coupons include savings for various Friendly's meals and ice cream, as well as a free 8"x10" color portrait from JC Penney Portraits. The campaign runs through February 13, 2005.

The dollars raised through "Cones for Kids" in Maine help support Easter Seals Early Intervention Program for children with developmental disabilities from birth through age 5.

"The employees of Friendly's have been strong supporters of Easter Seals work in Maine", says Larry Gammon, President of Easter Seals Maine. "They've taken our mission into their hearts and we are grateful to them".
