Pirates Beat Sound Tigers in OT

Bridgeport, Ct. - The Portland Pirates (24-17-3-0) and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (19-18-5-1) met for the second time this weekend on Saturday night in Bridgeport, Ct.. The Pirates swept the Sound Tigers in an over time win after being tied the majority of regulation.

The Sound Tigers drew first blood at 14:51 in the first period when Johan Sundstrom netted one off a quick face off with assists from Harry Zolnierczyk and Colton Gillies.

Halfway through the second period, the Pirates managed to even the score with a goal from Henrik Samuelsson at 10:34, with assists from Jordan Martinook and Corey Trivino.

The Pirates pulled ahead with the lead early into the third frame when Jordan Szwarz scored with an assist from Trivino at 2:43. 51 seconds later, Bridgeport's Colin McDonald tied the game at 3:34 with assists from C.J. Stretch and Chris Langkow.

Three periods proved to be not quite enough for the two teams as they remained tied through the remainder of regulation and headed into overtime. Justin Hodgman scored the game-winning goal at 2:13 into the extra period with the assist from Dylan Reese.

Both goaltenders had a total of 36 shots fired at them. Louis Domingue (8-3-1), blocked 34 for the Pirates. Kevin Poulin manned the net for the Sound Tigers and stopped 33 shots.

The Pirates will take a break for the AHL All-Star Classic presented by Turning Stone Resort Casino on Sunday and Monday and then will head on an extended road trip. The Pirates will return of Cross Insurance Arena on Tuesday, February 17th to face the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. For tickets and more information, call 207-PIRATES.
