Amerks Head into All-Star Break with 4-1 Loss to Flames

January 24, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release

(Glens Falls, NY)... The Rochester Americans allowed two goals in just 1:22 late in the second period before eventually falling to the Adirondack Flames 4-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center Saturday night. The game was the ninth meeting of the season and second in two nights between the North Division rivals, who split the weekend set with alternating wins on home ice. With the loss, the Amerks fall to 18-24-1-0 heading into the AHL All-Star break.

Jerry D'Amigo scored Rochester's only goal late in the third period with Tim Schaller adding the only assist. Andrey Makarov started in net for Rochester and made 31 saves in the loss, snapping a personal three-game win streak.

David Wolf potted two goals for the Flames, while Marcus Granlund finished with a goal and an assist, and Corey Potter contributed two assists. Garnet Hathaway also scored for Adirondack and goaltender Joni Ortio stopped all but one of Rochester's 36 shots for the win in his return from a recent NHL stint with Calgary.

The Amerks appeared to take a 1-0 lead on the power-play midway through the opening period when Jerome Leduc's slap-shot from the point snuck through multiple screens and hit the back of the net. The goal was immediately waved off by the referee, however, after the goaltender Ortio was bumped into.

After nearly 38 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Flames scored two goals in 1:22 to close out the second period.

The first goal came on a man-advantage after Potter's shot from the blueline was deflected into the top of the net by Hathaway to put Adirondack ahead 1-0. Shortly thereafter, the Flames would convert on an odd-man rush with Wolf on the finishing end of a Max Reinhart pass to add some insurance.

Adirondack added its third goal of the night just 3:06 into the final period when Potter jumped into the offensive zone and fed Granlund, who snuck a shot through Makarov's arm.

Rochester spoiled Ortio's shutout bid with 10:04 left in the third period after D'Amigo converted a nifty two-on-one pass from Schaller, cutting Adirondack's lead to 3-1.

Wolf's second of the night came on the power-play with 4:53 left in regulation to regain the three-goal lead for Adirondack. Minutes later, the Amerks suffered from a second disallowed goal on the night after Ortio's helmet was knocked off prior to the puck entering the net.

That chance would be the last one of quality for the Amerks, as Adirondack shut the door the rest of the way to seal the win and earn a weekend split.

The Amerks will head into the All-Star break following tonight's game before continuing their stretch of eight straight road games on Friday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch at the Oncenter at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester.
