Providence, R.I. - The Portland Pirates (3-3-0-0) fell to the Providence Bruins (3-3-2-0) by a score of 6-4 on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The Pirates have yet to win a game on the road in the 2015-2016 season. Portland showed sparks of hope late in the first period when they scored three goals in 6 minutes and 11 seconds to come back from a 2-0 deficit, but Providence ultimately came out on top.

A bright spot of the night for the Pirates was the penalty kill. Entering the game, the Pirates were ranked 27th in the American Hockey League on penalty kills, while the Bruins had the top-rated power play. The Pirates were able to hold the Bruins to 0-7 on the power play, their best penalty kill against any opponent this season.

The Bruins drew first blood at 8:24 in the first period when Colby Cave netted a shorthanded goal with help from Brandon DeFazio and Tommy Cross. The Bruins made it 2-0 with a goal from Frank Vatrano, assisted by Max Talbot at 11:30. The Pirates answered with a goal from Chase Balisy, his first in a Pirates uniform, at 13:49, assisted by Yann Sauve and Vinny Saponari. Rob Schremp tied the game up at 2 with a goal at 15:01, assisted by Garrett Wilson. Greg McKegg scored the go-ahead goal for Portland at 18:32 to give Portland their first and only lead of the night.

Providence tied the game 3-3 midway through the second stanza when Alexander Khokhlachev found the back of the net at 10:44, assisted by Chris Casto and Cross. The Bruins regained the lead not long after at 14:13 when Vatrano scored, his tenth goal of the season, the most of any player in the AHL so far this year. Verano was assisted on the goal by Andrew Cherniwchan and Talbot.

Schremp scored again at 3:19 in the final period, assisted by Wilson, to tie the game at 4. Anton Blidh broke the tie and gave Providence the 5-4 advantage at 10:39, assisted by Justin Hickman. Khokhlachev tied the game up for the Bruins, scoring an empty netter with 19 seconds left in the game to make it 6-4 Providence.

Sam Brittain (1-2-0) got the start in goal for Portland, saving 30 of 35 shots. Malcolm Subban (1-0-0) manned the net for the Bruins, going 30-36.
