Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch tamed the Hershey Bears, 4-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Matt Taormina, Jeff Tambellini and Anthony DeAngelo all put up multi-point games as the Crunch advanced to 4-3-0-1 on the season. The Bears are now 3-3-0-1.
Syracuse goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 27 of 28 shots on goal and moved to 2-0 on his conditioning stint with the Crunch. Hershey netminder Dan Ellis allowed four goals on 32 attempts. The Crunch struck on two of six man-advantages, while the penalty kill unit successfully shut down all four Bears power plays.
Hershey was first on the board, scoring just 2:46 into the game. Madison Bowey threw a shot on net that was turned aside. Dustin Gazley controlled the rebound in the slot and chipped it over Vasilevskiy's glove.
The Crunch found their groove at the 11:36 mark of the middle frame when Taormina beat Ellis five hole with a shot from the left point. Yanni Gourde and Tambellini earned points for the assists on the power-play tally. Just 16 seconds later, DeAngelo gave the Crunch the lead. Matthew Peca toe dragged around a Hershey defenseman and threw a cross-crease pass for DeAngelo to slam home. Taormina also recorded a point on the play.
Syracuse lit the lamp two more times in the third period to down Hershey, 4-1. At the 2:28 mark, Tambellini redirected Taormina's shot from the blue line for his third of the season. Mike Blunden added to the Crunch's score with the team's second power-play goal of the night at 6:43. As Blunden jumped out of the box after serving a boarding minor, he was met with a feed from Dylan Blujus and beat Ellis on the breakaway. DeAngelo earned his second point of the night with the helper.
The Crunch are back in action on Friday, Nov. 6 when they host the Albany Devils at 7 p.m.
Syracuse Crunch single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch Box Office located in the War Memorial on 800 South State Street in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
