Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators fell 7-5 to the Utica Comets in their first of eight meetings during the 2015-16 season. The teams combined for 12 goals with five coming in the final period of play.
Jordan Subban opened the scoring for Utica at the 8:05 mark of the first period after firing a wrist shot through a screened Matt O'Connor. The B-Sens tied it up on Tobias Lindberg's first professional goal 2:30 later with Ryan Dzingel picking up his first assist of the night. Dzingel got the lead for the B-Sens with less than four minutes remaining after intercepting a sloppy pass from Utica's goalie, Joe Cannata, and putting it in the empty goalmouth. Utica tied the game back up 16 seconds before time expired with Blair Jones' first goal of the night. Utica outshot Binghamton 12-10 to start the game.
Comets defenseman Taylor Fedun gave Utica the 3-2 lead with a slap shot from the top of the slot during a two-man up advantage for the visitors. Hunter Shinkaruk pulled the score to 4-2 just under six minutes later directly off a face off in front of O'Connor. Binghamton added one more goal with 1:12 remaining to make it a one-goal game once again going into the final intermission. Danny Hobbs fed Buddy Robinson the puck from the blue line that then found David Dziurzynski in front of Cannata and fed a back door shot in to the open net.
Utica moved the score in their favor less than a minute into the final period off of Shinkaruk's second goal of the night, but Dzingel answered six minutes later with a power-play goal to bring the score to 5-4. Lindberg tied the game up with a breakaway goal and assists from Dzingel and Nick Paul. Jones scored the eventual game-winning tally with just over 7 minutes remaining before Andrey Pedan secured the win for the visitors with an empty net goal pushing the final score to 7-5.
O'Connor finished with 22 saves in his home ice debut while Cannata picked up the win with 27 saves on 32 shots.
