Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Thurston County Senators Monday night in a non-league game at County Stadium.
The Senators struck for two early runs against Pippins starter Colin Serkowski in the top of the 2 nd, but the Yakima Valley bats got right back to work in the bottom half of the frame. With two men on and one out, Yakima Valley Community College product Connor Lau doubled down the left field line to tie the score at 2-2.
From there, the Pippins pitching staff locked in once again, as Serkowski and reliever Kelly Fitzpatrick set down 15 straight Senators hitters from the middle of the 2nd inning through the middle of the 7th.
With the Senators bats neutralized, Yakima Valley kept adding to the scoreboard. Sacrifice flies by Jake Roberts and Shawn Wardian in the 4th and 5th innings, respectively, made it a 4-2 ballgame through 5 innings, before the Pippins added two more runs in the 6th, one coming off an RBI single from JC Snyder.
The Senators scored once in the 7th and added one more run in the 9th inning. However, Lau came in and recorded the final out to earn the Pippins their second win of the young season. Of all the totals, perhaps the most relieving number was the zero errors that the Pippins committed Monday, following 5 errors on Saturday and 6 more on Sunday.
The two-game series and the inaugural homestand wrap up tomorrow at 7:05 against the Seantors before the team departs on its first road trip. Tickets are still available at PippinsBaseball.com and by calling (509) 575-HITS. Tuesday's game marks the first Terrific Tuesday of the summer, presented by Yakima Craft Brewing Company. A variety of items, including parking, stadium select tickets, soft drinks and domestic drafts are just $2, while Yakima Craft beers are just $3.
