Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers announced late this afternoon that team president Dave Berryman and members of the family of SGT Sherwood Baker, who was killed in Iraq on April 26, will be interviewed tomorrow, June 10th, at 7:23am on ESPN2's "Cold Pizza" morning sports show.

"I'd like to thank ESPN2 for bringing national attention to the story of Sherwood Baker," said Berryman. "I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to our local media for such exemplary coverage and their dedication toward our cause."

The Pioneers entire staff camped out in front of the team's administrative office from May 31st through June 4th in an effort to raise awareness for the Sherwood Baker Memorial Fund. The team had hoped to be able to present a check for $20,000 to the Baker family. In order to present the check for the fund, the June 5th game against the Manchester Wolves had to be sold out.

Although the June 5th game was not a sellout, the Pioneers will continue to raise funds through other initiatives for the remainder of the 2004 season in an effort to reach the $20,000 goal.

Cold Pizza airs live from New York City weekdays from 7am-9am ET, (encores from 9am-11am ET), and offers a unique blend of sports, pop culture, lifestyles and entertainment features.
