Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers Update

August 26, 2009 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

The 2009 Pioneers 16-4 season has been exciting. Although we are disappointed with the final score we should all be proud to have participated in Arena Football's Arena Cup Title Game in Las Vegas. The last four Pioneers seasons have been very successful. We participated in 2 Arena Cup games, Won 2 American Conference Championships and 3 consecutive East Division Titles. We watched as our Coach Rich Ingold was named to the AF2 Hall of Fame and was acknowledged as the greatest coach of " All Time". Some of our players have graduated from Arena 2 to advance their careers and play in the AFL,CFL and even the NFL. In four seasons we won a total of 57 games averaging more than 14 games/season.

In addition to great football we have been successful in advancing the Image of NEPA throughout the country and pumping over $5 million into the Local Economy. We are very proud of our connection to the community and all the Players, coaches, friends, fans and partners we worked with during our ownership.

Arena Football is going through a transitional period. It will be played in 2010 nationally on many levels. It's still the most exciting fan friendly sport there is. However our business responsibilities continue to grow in our other Enterprises and are requiring a significant investment of our time and national travel. The logistics of operating the team remotely have become challenging therefore a local Operator makes the most sense.

With a heavy heart we have decided to make the Pioneers available for Purchase and hope that an appropriate buyer can emerge in time to get the Pioneers on the field for the 2010 season. It was a tough decision .
