The Elmira Pioneers have added middle infielder Casey Baker to the roster effective Wednesday, July 24.Baker was born in Sayre, Penn. but currently officially resides in Wysox, Penn.
Baker is rookie eligible and the Pioneers did not need to move any other players on the roster to make room for him.
He began this season with Rio Grande Valleyof the Centra League (formerly the Texas-Louisiana League) where he hit .208, 1, 6 with 5 sb's in 28 games.Baker was a 15th round choice of the Yankees organization in 1999. He spent his first 2 seasons with their Gulf Coast League club batting .192, 0, 9 in 35 games in 1999 and then hitting .156, 0, 5 in 33 games in 2000.
He played a combined 18 games in 2001 with 14 of those coming with Greensboro and Staten Island in the Yankees system. He also played in 4 games in Columbus, Ga. in the Indians organization.
