Lexington County Blowfish News Release
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. -- The game was tied when Derek Olenchuk (Newberry) came on to pinch hit for Mason Dodd (Lander) to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.
A pitch later and the game was untied.
Olencchuk launched the go-ahead solo blast deep into the trees in right field at Lexington County Baseball Stadium to give the Blowfish the lead over Florence 5-4. Lexington County padded their lead in the eighth scoring 5 runs en route to a 10-4 victory.
The win marks the sixth straight over Florence this season and gets the Blowfish back in the win column after dropping last night's game to Wilson 4-3.
The Blowfish took the lead in the first after Florence plated one in the top half of the inning. Brett Auckland (Presbyterian) and Jordan Wren (Georgia Southern) went back to back with singles to start the first then TJ Hopkins (South Carolina) and Matt Williams (South Carolina) plated the two via a groundout and sacrifice fly. Henry Davis (Appalachian State) knocked in Adam Renwick (Clemson) after Renwick doubled down the right field line.
Wil Crowe (South Carolina) was solid in four innings work only allowing 1 unearned run on two hits while striking out five RedWolves.
Things got dicey for the Blowfish in the seventh when Florence scored three runs without a base hit. The inning was aided by a wild throw over to first from Michael Royal (Georgia Gwinnett) and then a fielding error form Mason Dodd (Lander) at third.
In total Lexington County surrendered four errors and the lead in the seventh allowing 3 Florence runs.
But in the bottom of the seventh Olenchuk clobbered an inside fastball from RedWolves' starter Charlie Sobieraski (Buffalo) over the right field wall.
The Blowfish plated five more runs in the eighth and set the Wolves down in the ninth to secure the 10-4 win.
Tomorrow Lexington County heads up the road to Asheboro to play the Copperheads who are atop the CPL Western Division.
Coverage begins a 7 p.m. on z93.1 The Lake and first pitch is set for 7:17 p.m. from McCrary Park.
