Steamers Outhit by Pilots

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers fell to the Peninsula Pilots in another high-scoring affair at Historic Hicks Field on Tuesday night. Edenton (7-12) lost its fifth straight home game, while Peninsula cracked a season-high, 19 hits.

Perry DellaValle took his first loss as a Steamer. DellaValle (2-1) allowed eight runs on eight hits while walking one and fanning seven batters through three innings.

Michael Parmentier earned the win for Peninsula. Parmentier (1-0) surrendered one unearned run on two hits while sitting down five Steamers on Strikes in three innings of work.

The Pilots jumped out to a three-run lead thanks to a homerun from Kyle Sinnen and two-run triple by Kyle McPherson, but the Clams stormed back with a five runs in the second. Jimbo Pernetti led off the inning with a home run, and after Brandon Gragilla and Tyler Ammerman reached, Aaron Aucker gave the Teal and Black the lead with a homerun. Trey Hair made it back-to-back homeruns to give the Steamers a 5-3 lead after two innings.

Peninsula plated five runs of its own in the very next inning. Will Shepherd led off with a double, moving to third on a Charlie Cody single that loaded the bases two batters later. Darian Carpenter was hit by a pitch to bring in one run, and Drake McNamara capped off the scoring with a grand slam to make it 8-5, Pilots.

The Clams cut the lead to two in the fourth. Aaron Aucker started the frame with a walk, moving to second on a Hair single. Richie Cunningham bounced a ball back to the pitcher in the next at bat, forcing out Hair at second and advancing Aucker to third. Bobby Schuman followed with a single to score Aucker and bring the score to 8-6.

The Steamers would get no closer, eventually falling by a final count of 13-7.
