Evansville Otters News Release

Chris Pillsbury gave a tired Evansville bullpen a much needed rest, going eight strong innings as the Evansville Otters beat the Kalamazoo Kings 8-3.

The Kings got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning when Nick Rogers hit his second homer of the season.

The Otters would come back on a Brian McKenna sacrifice fly scoring Steve Martin in the third. The Kings would come right back as Adam Leavitt scored on a Chris Pillsbury wild pitch. It would be the last run that Pillsbury would give up until the eighth as he locked down and shut the Kings down through the next five innings.

The Otters would take the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning. With runners on first and second and two outs, Frank Scott tripled driving home Jason Mann and Jud Kindle to give the Otters a 3-2 lead.

Evansville increased the lead in the fifth inning when they scored three runs, the big hit a two out, two run double from Jud Kindle. Evansville made it 7-2 in the sixth when Steve Martin led off the inning with his sixth homer of the year. The Otters added a run in the top of the eighth to round out their scoring and make it 8-2. Kalamazoo got a homer off the bat of Pete Pirman in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring.

Pillsbury (3-2) got the win for Evansville going eight innings, scattering eight hits, allowing three runs, walking none and striking out two. Using his defense effectively behind him, Pillsbury threw just 99 pitches in the contest. Chad Clark (0-3) took the loss for Kalamazoo.

The win guarantees the Otters at least a .500 record on their current six-game roadtrip. Ben Foster (3-1) goes to the mound for Evansville in the series finale. Lee Naplin (3-1) takes the ball for the Kings. Game time is set for 4:35 p.m. CST.
